Hugh Coleman, a native Texan, has a long record of service to Denton County, the Republican Party, and the community at large.
Prior to serving as the Denton County Commissioner for Precinct One, Hugh served as an Assistant District Attorney/Counsel to the Sheriff in Denton, Texas, as an Assistant County Attorney in El Paso, Texas, and as a City Attorney and Municipal Prosecutor in private practice.
Coleman is an active member of his community serving in a variety of leadership positions. Currently, he serves as an Ex-Officio board member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Government Affairs Committee for the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, as an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 65 in Denton, and as an elder and member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton. He is also a frequent volunteer for the Special Olympics in Sanger.
He is a former Precinct Chairman for the Denton County Republican Executive Committee, served on the Foundation Board for North Central Texas College and the Children's Place Pre-School Board. He is also a past District Committee Member for the Boy Scouts of America - Longhorn Council, Frontier Trails District, a past board member of the Denton Salvation Army Advisory Board, and is a past board member of Community in Schools for North Texas.
In addition to his community service, Coleman is an active member of the legal community. He is a Past President of the Denton County Bar Association and is a past President of the Denton County Young Lawyers Association. Coleman was also instrumental in the creation of the highly acclaimed Denton County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (DCAP), which provides pro bono and low cost mediation services to residents of Denton County. Coleman is also a past Director of the Texas Young Lawyer's Association, receiving the President's Award of Merit for exemplary service to the public and bar in 2003 and 2005.
Coleman earned his B.A. from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa, College of Law, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Hugh Coleman is married to Bernadette, a graduate of Texas Woman's University, who serves as an Occupational Therapist with the Denton County Special Education Co-Op. They reside in Denton with their children, Ben and Helena.
Hugh enjoys visiting National Parks all over the United States, especially when hiking trips are planned.
